Foreigner, Tooth and Nail
I received this song on cassette in the mid-eighties from Gordon at the local Judo club. The same cassette included my first taste of Aerosmith. Gordon had some serious albums. I never followed it up with more Foreigner purchases…dunno why…maybe they were a bot too soft-rocky for my liking but when it comes to this track there are few songs with such a great opening riff. It puts me in mind of Van Halen’s Panama but unlike that song, Tooth is more than just a great crunchy opening: the vocals are superb; the spidery multi-sectioned solo, the second guitar chiming in… I would love to see Orianthi and Richie Sambora duel guitars on something like this then the recent subdued version of Livin’ on a Prayer which you can see here if you like.
