Joan Armatrading, Me Myself I

For once this is a genuine rediscovered track. Tuning in to Jools Hollands’ show on BBC 2 a few weeks ago I saw Joan doing this brilliantly sparse version of Me Myself I. It brought back memories of listening to a cassette of her classic compilation “Track Record” when I was a lad. She’s always been a guitar freak — back in the eighties Joan used to appear occasionally in the guitar mags and I recall reading about her describing a new Fender as “delicious”. In this clip she’s definitely channelling a bit of Jack White (sorry if you’re outside the UK, you probably cannot see it) too.
