I can’t recall how I first heard of Pavement.Their album “Brighten the Corners” from which this track comes must be one of the last pieces of vinyl I ever bought. Pavement were part of the ‘lo-fi’ movement which I suppose would also include Eels and were one of those quirky bands with quirky lyrics which I took great delight in listening too and repeating during heavy dinners with my old boss — and fellow fan — from California. Nowadays I don’t have the same patience for obscure vocals but this is a great tune. I remember Damon Albarn in ’96 or thereabouts saying how inspired he was by Pavement’s sound. A few months later Blur released Song 2 — close but no cigar.
