Runrig. Hearthammer. I worked in a Pompey bar round about ’91 and during the boring day shifts with just the odd drunk drinking barley wine I’d abuse the musical privileges having the keys to the jukebox meant. This track featured quite a lot as did many others until the day the jukebox guy came to do the takings and told the boss that there was an unusually high “free song count” in the system. I also saw them live in Portsmouth Guildhall a year or so before. Donnie Munro’s overly laboured explanation to the crowd that Alba was actually Gaelic for Scotland put me off nationalist sentiment forever. Good music though.
