Texas, I Don’t Want a Lover
There’s nothing like a good tracksuit to enhance your street cred image but Texas were never very ‘street’ — I’m sure they’d be the first to admit it. This was a great song, the first of many. When you tell foreigners you come from Scotland they often mention the great pop songs . . . I like to think it’s Texas they’re referring to (or maybe they’re just getting Scotland and England mixed up). My favourite Texas moment was when Johnny Vegas introduced them live on TOTP with “All the way from Texas, it’s Glasgow” and for some reason I cannot fathom they were huge in France.
