Suede, She’s in Fashion

Suede had some of the most achingly spick and span Britpop credentials — the adrogynous look, the arty videos shot in drab council estates not to mention one of the genre’s best guitarists in Gerard Butler. Wiki says they pre-dated the more laddish Oasis and Blur phenomenon which is true, but here they are in 1999 at the height of Oasis’ powers still pumping out their glorious wry, left-field squinting at the world — here they seem to simultaneously celebrate and skewer the darker pathologies of the fashion industry. Great lyrics and this track also includes for me, the best ever use of the phrase “Ooh, ooh, oooooh”.

Great song, love this vid – still looks good today. What about Spandau Ballet Lifeline for the best ever use of ooh ooh ooh? Admittedly there are 5 x ooh in Spandau’s song!

Gerard Butler? Seems unlikely that he was busy in the 90s being a brit pop guitarist before his string of slightly duff movies in the 2000s appeared. Bernard Butler maybe? You’re right though, good track. Looks like Butler had quit Su ed E by 99 as well 🙂

    Hope all is well.
